Poets, storytellers and musicians at Mouth and Music in September are invited to respond to the theme "Crabbed Age and Youth". On Tuesday 9th September at the Boars Head, Kidderminster, featured poet is the brilliant Ben Norris  whose ACE-funded debut one-man show, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Family, opens at mac Birmingham on 6th September.  Also on the bill are MCs Sarah Tamar and Heather Wastie who will join forces to perform poems & songs about dementia. Please note that the event now starts at the earlier time of 7.30pm. Open mic sign up from 7.00pm.

Our exciting Mystery Tour Summer Programme begins next week! Please can you circulate and spread the word to young people and your networks!

In addition to our Summer Programme begins next week, we will also be running residential course at Ingestre Hall from Monday 27th-Friday 31st October. 

 

Ideally we are looking for young people who are looking to be part of both programmes, but will accept those who only want to do one of them.

The Last Post - Funding available

Superact is proud to launch a new First World War centenary music project: The Last Post

We are looking for passionate and dedicated community groups from all backgrounds to come together to explore their own First World War heritage, remember the impact that the First World War had on their local community and play music from the era as a mark of commemoration.

Community groups taking part will be inspired and supported to research and share the stories of local people and places from the war and then hold a commemorative event.  At every event, The Last Postceremonial call will be played in a variety of styles to remember an individual or group whose life/lives changed forever during the First World War; not just on bugles but on any instrument from pianos and cellos to guitars and drums.

Your Last Post event will need to take place between 4th - 18th of November and would be part of an ongoing project across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

We will support you with access to The Last Post Tool Kit, training on how to research your First World War heritage, tips on how to host an event and ongoing advice and guidance.

Last Post events are not supposed to be costly, and to ensure that everyone can take part, Superact (supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund) is offering expenses for events, ranging from £50-£200.  

If you require financial assistance please register before the 30th September 2014. Any registrations after this date will not be eligible for financial support but can still access the resources and be part of the project.

• If you require a contribution towards expenses for your event from Superact, we ask that you tell a little bit about how this funding would help in the registration form and also we ask that any events we provide expenses towards, should be free to members of the public.
• Only events taking place in the UK will be eligible to take part in The Last Post in 2014.
• Your event can be ticketed if you do not require any financial assistance from Superact.

White Ribbon - Young People Theatre Brief

 

To assist companies bidding for this contract, I can clarify our approach to evaluating quotations.

 

We will score quotations against two separate criteria:  

 

1. Pricing – as stated in the brief the maximum budget we have for this project is £3000.  40% of the total marks for the contract will be awarded for the competitiveness of your pricing.

 

2. Quality - 60% of the total marks for the contract will be awarded for the quality of your proposal, this should describe:

a.       Your approach to working with the three targeted schools

b.      The content of the delivery including outline lesson plans, learning outcomes and evidence of previous outcomes, where you have delivered similar project to young people  

c.       Your plan for monitoring and evaluating the impact of the delivery

d.      Your approach to responding to any disclosures made by young people

 

Following scoring of quotations, the Council will shortlist a number of companies for interview.  Shortlisted companies will be notified during w/c 8^th September and offered a range of interview slots during w/c 15^th September.  Interviews will take place at Redditch Town Hall or via Skype.

 

Companies shortlisted for interview must provide at least two appropriate references who will be contacted prior to the interviews.

 

We expect to make an offer of work to the successful company during w/c 21^st September.

 

We plan for delivery of performances to take place during either w/c 4^th, 11^th or 18^th November.  Companies bidding for the contract must advise us in writing by return of any dates during these weeks when you are unavailable to perform.

FREE performance workshop for 7yrs+ at Kidderminster Library
Friday 15 August, 11am - 12.30pm

Hippodrome Plus and innovative arts group Home Live Art are looking for a variety of individuals, families and diverse groups of all generations  from 7yrs upwards willing to get involved in an amazing opportunity as part of Birmingham Hippodrome’s I Spy Culture  project.

Come along on Friday morning and take part in ‘Ida Barr’s Mash Up' a performance workshop at Kidderminster Library - led by critically acclaimed artist Christopher Green.  It’s FREE and no experience is necessary!

Ida Barr is the hilarious old time Music Hall turned Rap Superstar character of award-winning artist Christopher Green. She will lead a crowd of people of all ages in a choir performance called Ida Barr's Mash Up - where old style music hall songs are mixed with R&B chart hits like 'Only Girl in the World' by Rihanna.

If you, your family or your group sing, dance or have an interest in music and performance please get in touch and take part in this fun, incredible experience for all.

Alongside the workshop, you and your family will then also be invited to come on a FREE day trip to an outdoor arts festival in Birmingham produced by Hippodrome Plus. FREE transport will be provided to take you to and from Kidderminster Library to the event on Saturday 23 August.

I SPY CULTURE offers you the chance to take part in a wide range of FREE exciting arts events and activities which include workshops and cultural excursions from your local library.

Hippodrome Plus is delivering this scheme to ensure that its high quality arts programme reaches everyone and we want you to be part of it, so hop on board!
During cultural excursions children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Poetry, storytelling and music at KAF - workshop and performances
There's plenty of poetry, storytelling and music on offer courtesy of Kidderminster Creatives at this year's Kidderminster Arts Festival. On Sunday 10^th August Sarah Tamar is running a poetry workshop from 2.00-4.00pm and on Tuesday 12^th August at 8.00pm there's a special Mouth and Music featuring boxer poet Matt Windle. Matt is a former Birmingham Young Poet Laureate and four times Birmingham & Midland Boxing Champion. Headline music act is Scandinavian influenced folk duo, Sirkel who play sax, flute, violin, accordion, guitar & mandola. They will also be bringing a special guest, clog dancer Ayliffe Edwards. Local poets, storytellers and musicians can join in by signing up for a short spot at 7.30 on the night. Then on Thursday 21^st August, there's a Night of Spoken Word from 7.00-9.30pm with time to browse art in between sets. Anyone wanting to perform at this can book a slot in advance.
