Job Opportunities

Summary

The Worcestershire Arts Partnership, through Worcestershire County Arts Service, are looking to work with Artists and/or Arts Organisations on an exciting project with young people (16-24) who are at risk of offending or who have previously offended.

This project has been the result of a successful funding bid to the West Mercia Commissioner’s Grant Scheme and we will be working with several agencies, including  YSS and their Accessing Resources in the Community Project (ARC) as well as regional sports partnerships and other agencies working with young people.

The aim is to reduce (re)offending by supporting young people aged between 16-24 years into accessing positive activities.

We are looking to run a six month programme of arts activities across Worcestershire with referred young people, to meet an agreed set of outcomes within our successful bid to the police.

Specific outputs of the programme are:

-          A one-stop-shop approach to creating a menu of arts opportunities for offenders/those at risk of offending/those vulnerable to crime that can link in directly to the pathways being created for clients

-          Clients to participate in a programme of individual arts activity.  This may include arts projects which develop self-esteem, develop new skills, enable them to deal with difficult emotions, enable them to express themselves better, and more.

-          Each arts intervention to include plans for sustaining the client’s connection with this activity once the project ceases; this may include ongoing volunteering and signposting clients to mainstream activities.

Specific outcomes for the referred young people are that they will have:

-       developed their interest and skills in the arts

-       challenged their views of themselves and raised their aspirations

-       engaged with learning

-       connected with new education, training and employment opportunities

-       made a positive contribution to society

The Artists/Arts Organisations

You will need to demonstrate your ability to meet the following criteria:

·         High quality arts activity

·         Experience, empathy and knowledge of working with young people/adults who are at risk of offending or who have offended

·         Experience of running arts activities to an agreed series of outcomes

·         Understanding of safeguarding procedures

·         Ability to evaluate social based outcomes

Programme of work

We are hoping to work with four groups. These are:

1.       The Senior Attendance Group run through the Youth Support Service (YSS) in Worcester

2.       Employment Support Programme run through the Youth Support Service (YSS) in Worcester

3.       YSS ARC Programme referrals to be held throughout the county

4.       One further programme with a to-be-identified partner organisation

Our methodology

We will hold an initial taster session during the Summer with each of the four groups before a selected artist(s)/arts organisation(s) will be chosen to run the programme.  Each group will run for a period of 6 months and this will begin in September. There will be evening work/twilight work and it is envisaged that there will be approximately 6-14 participants for each group.

You will need to undertake initial training on delivering the agreed Outcome Star method as well as appropriate safeguarding training (both provided through West Mercia Police). You will also be expected to fully evaluate the workshops from their initial beginnings through to their completion, using these agreed methods.

We are looking for artists who can run activities using artistic systems of Words, Sounds, Visuals and Movement. This can encompass more traditional art forms but we are seeking to work with artists who can adopt a flexible, multi art form approach.

Fees

Each weekly session will be paid at £100.  You will also be paid that for the taster session in the Summer. There will also be additional funding for materials.

How to apply

Send a letter and CV outlining your experience and suitability with reference to the outputs, outcomes and criteria identified above to:
